Concrete Masonry Units. Load
Bearing, 100% Solite® or Kenlite®
Lightweight Aggregate Concrete Masonry Units shall conform to the
requirements of ASTM C‑90.
|

The producer of the concrete masonry
units shall furnish certification from an independent testing laboratory
that all aggregate used in the manufacture of the masonry units shall be
from a single source conforming to ASTM C331, "Lightweight Aggregates
for Concrete Masonry Units", and is 100% Solite®, Kenlite®
or rotary kiln produced expanded shale. The use of scoria, tuff,
pumice, slag, coal derived aggregates (cinders, bottom ash, fly ash) or
similar waste products shall not be allowed. Blending of screenings or
any other deleterious substance which impairs the fire ratings or
insulation values is prohibited. All units shall be free of organic
impurities that will cause rusting, staining or popouts and shall
contain no combustible matter.

The dry weight of
various sizes of 2 core Solite® and Kenlite®
Concrete Masonry Units shall not exceed the weight shown in table below
when tested in accordance with ASTM C‑140:

Fire Ratings: The producer of the concrete masonry units
shall furnish certification from an independent testing laboratory
confirming that all 8" or larger masonry units meet all of the UL® 618
requirements for two (2) hours or better (as required), referencing full
scale fire test reports (ASTM E119).

Thermal Resistance:
The producer of the concrete masonry units shall furnish
certification from an independent testing laboratory confirming by tests
conducted in accordance with ASTM C236, "Standard Test Method of Steady
State Thermal Performance of Building Assemblies by Means of a Guarded
Hot Box", that the thermal resistance (R) value of an 8" concrete
masonry unit shall be a minimum of 2.27 (BTU/°F•ft2•h).

Sound Transmission Class: The concrete masonry unit
manufacturer shall provide certification that 8" hollow 100% lightweight
concrete masonry units have a sound transmission class rating not less
than 45 (ASTM E90).

Certification and Testing: The producer of the masonry
units shall submit certifications of compliance with ASTM C90, C331,
C236, E90 and UL618, 60 days prior to any jobsite delivery. Field
sampling of concrete masonry units shall be conducted during
construction by an independent testing laboratory according to the
requirements of ASTM C‑140. |
