Unfavorable soils make underground utility pipe construction expensive and risky. Removing unstable soil is sometimes ineffective and costly.  The use of rock can result in a sloughing off especially when it is heavier than the surrounding soil.  Consequently, the pipe settles and cracks causing expensive maintenance and repair.

Pipe foundations, corrugated and plastic pipes can be used but are often costly and result in failure.  Using lightweight aggregate fill can provide a sound alternative.  Solite^® and Kenlite^® lightweight aggregate material compact well and provides a tight, firm, dry base.   It is easy to handle, reducing time, labor and lowering the construction cost for the project.

Typically, the weight of the pipe along with the fluid and the lightweight aggregate fill is less than the weight of the soil removed.  Many project utilizing lightweight aggregate fill, the pipe's line stay true to grade with no settling or damage years after completion.
