Fill Installation Procedures |
 |
|
The recommended procedure for geofill installation of Solite® or
Kenlite® is as follows:
- Solite® or Kenlite® material should
conform to ASTM –C330
- If stockpiled on site, care should be taken not to
contaminate the material with soil or other aggregates
- No vehicular traffic shall drive across the material until
after it is placed and compacted in the work
- The material should be placed in the work by front-end
loader or other means and leveled into 12” to 18” lifts
- After placement it shall be compacted in two or three
passes with a smooth drum non-vibratory roller with a maximum capacity of no
more than 10 tons
- The target in place density of the fill shall be 60 (+/-
2) pcf
- Care should be taken not to over compact the material so
as not to increase the in place density beyond the optimum value
The method for determining “yield” is as follows:
- In place density ____ (pcf) x 27 ft3/yd3 =
____ lbs/yd3
- 2000(lbs /ton) / ____ lbs/yd3 = ____ yd3/ton
Example:
- In place density 60 (pcf) x 27 ft3/yd3 =
1620 lbs/yd3
- 2000(lbs /ton) / 1620 lbs//yd3 = 1.234
yd3/ton
Therefore, the expected yield of 60 pcf compacted material is 1.234 cubic yards
of fill per ton of Solite®.
Using this algorithm the following in place densities equate to the following
yields:
| 59 pcf |
1.255 yd3/ton |
| 60 pcf |
1.235 yd3/ton |
| 61 pcf |
1.214 yd3/ton |
| 62 pcf |
1.195 yd3/ton |
| 63 pcf |
1.176 yd3/ton |
| 64 pcf |
1.157 yd3/ton |
